If you live anywhere in the Southeast, you’re probably either braving the icy roads or snuggled warm in your bed since today is a snow day! In Nashville, most of the schools are closed and a lot of businesses and retailers aren’t opened today due to (I quote Sam Champion from GMA) the “arctic blast” that hit the Southeast yesterday.

If you’re stuck at home, like a lot of us scaredy cat Southerners are, what should you do on your snow day?
If you’re like me, then you probably have a stack of magazines that you haven’t had time to read sitting on your coffee table. If you’re Aly A + On Top of Things and you’ve finished your reading, then pick up one of your old favorite magazines to reread.
One of my oldie but goody magazines is House Beautiful’s October 2007 issue. The magazine is saturated with amazing projects like Kay Douglass’ It Must Be Belgium.

I love how the neutrals with pops of earthy red, natural materials and black Yuan Dynasty glazed urn work together to make this room feel comfortable and homey yet beautiful.

The romance of the Belgium worn wood table and ceiling and deep comforting grayish chocolate Lee Industry slipper chairs give this dining room a cozy and lived-in look.

This is by far one of my favorite kitchens. The Calcutta Gold marble countertops, gray-green painted shaker style inlaid cabinets, unfinished cypress ceiling and the silver mosaic tiles from Walker Zanger’s Metallismo Collection give a twist to the traditional white kitchen.

What can I say but when can I move in?
I like magazines because I can multitask while flipping threw them. You can watch the kids play and keep you’re mommy-mind dreaming of your ideal kid’s playroom or your next master bedroom retreat. You can turn pages while still keeping up with what Travis Stork and Oprah are saying on their shows.
Another favorite project from the October 2007 issue is Nancy Boszhardt’s Where’s the Chintz.

Subtle yet Sophisticated

I LOVE this traditional take: A Painted Herringbone Wood Floor!

This is another one of my favorite black and white kitchens.

This is a nice reading nook.

I wish that I could be here. It looks so much warmer than 10 degrees and snow.

I can picture this as a second guest
room for extended family and a great room for the kids!

This is one of my favorite boy’s rooms because of the built-in bed and blues and whites.

Any guest of this room would feel elegant and at home!

This is another master bedroom that I love because of the use of rustic materials and beautiful correlation of pattern.

What a perfect writer’s nook!
One of my favorite project’s from the October 2007 issue of House Beautiful is Blue and White Now.

I like the subtle blue and white brought in in the pinstripe dining chairs and pottery on the bookshelves beyond the kitchen.

This magnificent bathroom/closet combo is every girl’s dream!

And last but not least, James Radin’s kitchen from Something’s Gotta Give. This is one of my very favorite classic white kitchens. I flip back to this kitchen a lot when designing for my clients. It’s classic, timeless and memorable!
Enjoy your snow day however you decide to spend it!
