I’m not a pattern person. For example, when it comes to a pattern in clothing, I typically like to stick to either solid clothing or pretty traditional patterned apparel. And when it comes to pattern in rooms, I used to be the same way. BUT I’m finding myself pulling these type of oversized/overscaled patterns over and over again for my clients.

Patterns can do to a room what having a cup of tea does to your afternoon. It’s adds a little pep to your step.
Funky vintage, Indian, geometric and European patterns are all the rage this new year. You can add pattern in so many different ways like artwork, wallpaper, draperies, pillows and carpet just to name a few. Here are some of my favorite new finds.

If you’re in the mood for a DIY that is super inexpensive, you should try stenciling. I’m not talking about your mom’s sweet sailboat stenciled border like at the top of your old room. Try finding an up-to-date pattern and fill up the whole wall so that it almost looks like a wallpaper.

These are some stencils that I found at West Elm from Jotta Jansdotter that do the trick. You can use these stencils on just about everything from walls & fabrics to suitcases.

So put a little pattern in your room and you’ll have pep in your step all season long!
